THE MARTINEAU TEN

(Numbers are fated to be variable, but Ten is short also for Tennal)

Percy Lea – Erstwhile Principal of Tennal Community Home School until 1984 when it closed.  He has continued to live on campus.  Has a love of local history and the history of the School and Multi Use Centre in all its forms  from its beginning in 1848. His home is his own but on the edge of the campus and he is very particular about the use to which the property is put.

Denise and Sean Reynolds – Denise was site manager for several years and had a care for the maintenance and efficient running of the complex. Her knowledge of it and of Local Authority procedures and rationale is very helpful.  She is fond of the place and lives opposite with her husband Sean, an Estates Manager for Sandwell Council with a professional and objective view of the issues involved.

Charles Fulford –Another resident of Harborne.  Keen and interested, with some professional skills to bring to bear. Unit Leader of one of 8 different groups at Tennal School.

Roger Cobley – A retired teacher, and Norman Avenue resident, for about 25 years.  He is active in local affairs, having campaigned to save Quinton Meadows.  He is a member of several local community groups. His interest in the Martineau Centre complex is a natural part of his commitment to the local community.

Rwth Hunt – A farmer’s daughter, 30 year resident, erstwhile temporary worker at Martineau, and Green Party candidate for Local election. (1980). Co-ordinator  of WENbrum,  and Friends of the Woodgate Valley Country Park, with a keen interest in preservation of beautiful and useful places.  Passionate about personal involvement in public matters.  The vote is only the beginning for her, and those interested need to be aware of what is being done in their name.  Notable with representatives to Local Authority and to Parliament.  Sometimes supportive

Alun Evans – Resident of Norman Avenue for about 28 years.  Architect by profession, with a profound knowledge of the area.  Previously employed by the Council with special knowledge of the drainage system.  Curious to discover why the Council is being so mysterious about the Complex and now fascinated by its history as it is becoming evident.  He has written an article for a local  free newspaper.

Mansoor Nazir – Local resident with young family. Architect and neighbour to the complex.  Interested in its future and prospects.  At present creating a website for their campaign.  Also very willing to help if he can.

Peter Millington – as Editor of the Harborne Gazette, a local paper for local residents, he is providing a voice for the group. He lives in Redhall Road, and he has an interest in the Martineau on his own account. He is Information Manager at Birmingham Disability Resource Centre and as a parent, he is also on the Parent Teacher Association of Our Lady of Fatima School, the closest school to the Martineau Centre.

Raymond Daughton -  A  resident of Norman Avenue  for 6 months , he has been swept up in the continual queries about the Martineau Centre. After his education in England, his lengthy exile in the United States as a Project Engineering Manager, has lent him a certain way of doing things with the object of ensuring results. He has been a long serving community activist, he knows his way around inside US Government and City Hall. He has participated in many committees for example: bids for large government projects, on government committees, Economic Development committees, Board member for the Chamber of Commerce and in a waste management master plan. He has been involved in many big development projects and recently persuading the Council to replace the 15 trees missing on Norman Avenue in Harborne..
